Proactive Invites can take anywhere from 0-30 seconds to appear to a user once manually initiated by the operator. This is because the Activa Live Chat system is setup so that the Web browser checks our service for such invites every 30-seconds (so depending on when during that span the invite was initiated, it can show up anywhere between 0-30 seconds). This, of course, is far better than our competitor, which can take 60 seconds.
The reason the Web browser must check for updates from the service is because there is no technical way to "push" information to the browser from the service. This is how live chat works.
Automated invites, on the other hand, are a little different. They are "checked" or setup when your page first loads (as part of the Deployment Code). From there, the timing is as you set it because the Auto Invite is triggered via Javascript that is already loaded into the browser, and therefore it does not require the browser to check with the service.
